WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A RENAL
ARTERY ULTRASOUND? A renal artery ultrasound exam is
an imaging of the renal arteries and kidneys in the abdomen. This test
helps to determine if there is any arterial disease in the vessels that
supply the kidneys.
HOW LONG WILL MY TEST TAKE? The renal artery ultrasound exam
will take approximately 1 ½ hours.
WHO ADMINISTERS THIS TEST?
An ultrasound technologist administers this test.
HOW SHOULD I
PREPARE FOR MY TEST? Nothing to eat or drink five hours
before the test.
WHAT WILL I
EXPERIENCE DURING THE RENAL ULTRASOUND? You will be lying on your back,
turning onto your right and left sides and possibly lying on your stomach
during the exam. The ultrasound itself is painless; however, you may feel
some pressure from the transducer in that area.
