Patient Activated
Event Monitoring
WHAT DOES THE
TERM "KING OF HEARTS" REFER TO? "King of Hearts" is a monitor that a patient wears for 30 days.
The King of Hearts can provide your
physician with valuable information about the rhythm of your heart. It
allows the physician to determine if your symptoms correlate with any
changes or irregularities in your heart rhythm.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR
MY KING OF HEARTS?
- Please wear a loose fitting,
comfortable shirt so that electrodes can be placed on your chest. No
one-piece outfits, please (i.e.: dresses, girdles or overalls).
- Refrain from using lotion or powder on
your chest area as this makes it difficult for the electrodes to stay in
place.
- Please bring a list
of your current medications, including dosage and frequency. Take your
medications at your usual time.
WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING THE KING OF HEARTS? - Two electrodes
will be placed on your chest and you will be given a monitor to wear. The
King of Hearts monitor will record your heart rhythm for 30 seconds prior to
and one minute after
you press the appropriate button.
- Be sure to keep track of your symptoms and the time of the recording in
the diary provided.
- You will wear this monitor for approximately one month unless otherwise
instructed.
- When test period is done, you will send these recordings via your
telephone to Lifewatch, a 24-hour monitor service used by Northpointe. A
Northpointe physician will review the tracings.
