COMPREHENSIVE
EXAMINATIONS When you
come to our office, you are probably already scheduled with the type of
physician that can best serve your cardiac needs, depending on if your
concerns are with the "plumbing" or the "electrical" part of the heart. When
you come in for your visit, a thorough medical history and physical
examination will be done. Particular attention will be, of course, paid to
the heart-related questions. Have you had your cholesterol checked? Have you
been getting any chest pain or dizziness? Do you exercise regularly? Do you
smoke? What is your family history? These are the types of questions that
will be asked of you and the answers are very important for the physician to
correctly assess what is going on. You can expect that a great emphasis will
be on risk-factor modification, or, plainly put, what can you do in your
everyday life to reduce the risk of having heart disease. Other than that,
the physician might recommend further testing to thoroughly and correctly
identify what exactly is happening to you. Any treatment, of course, would
depend on the results of the visit and/or any testing that is indicated.
ADULT CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE Congenital
Heart Disease is a heart-related problem that is present since birth,
whether you knew about it or not. There are many different types of defects
depending on which parts of the heart it affects. It may affect the heart
muscle itself, the arteries or veins leading to or from the heart, or even
the valves of the heart. Your specific defect may not yet have displayed
any symptoms or problems, but some of these defects can, over time, create
substantial problems. Our physicians are well-versed in all kinds of
congenital heart disease and will be happy to evaluate you for such. We are
an adult cardiology practice, however, so we request that anyone under the
age of 17 be seen by a Pediatric Cardiologist.
