Blood Pressure Monitor
Testing
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF
AN AMBULATORY BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR? The ambulatory blood pressure
monitor will help your doctor determine how your blood pressure reacts
during normal everyday activities. It also provides your doctor with
valuable information about your blood pressure and allows him to determine
if your symptoms correlate with any changes in your blood pressure and any
medication adjustments that are needed.
HOW SHOULD I
PREPARE FOR MY MONITOR? - Please wear a loose fitting, comfortable
shirt so that the blood pressure cuff can be placed on your arm.
- You will be given a carrying case and shoulder strap to wear the monitor
over your shoulder or around your waist.
- Please bring a list of your current medications, including dosage
and frequency. Take your medications at your usual time.
WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING THE MONITOR? - A blood pressure cuff will be placed on your arm. The cuff will be
attached to a monitor that records your blood pressure for 24 hours.
- You will be required to log your activities and/or symptoms in a diary
while wearing the monitor. During the 24 hours you are encouraged to do
normal activities.
- Remove the monitor after 24 hours. Return the monitor to our office as
soon as possible. If the monitor, cuff and case are not returned within
48 hours, a fee may be charged to your account.
