Atrial Fibrillation
Monitoring
WHAT
IS THE PURPOSE OF AN ATRIAL FIBRILLATION MONITOR? This monitor can provide your physician with
valuable information about the rhythm of your heart. It allows the physician
to determine if your symptoms correlate with any changes or irregularities
in your heart rhythm.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE? Please wear a loose fitting, comfortable shirt so
that electrodes can be placed on your chest. No one-piece outfits, please
(i.e.: dresses, girdles or overalls). Please refrain from using lotion or
powder on your chest area as this makes it difficult for the electrodes to
stay in place.
Please bring a list of your current medications, including dosage and
frequency. Take your medications at your usual time.
WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING THE A-FIB MONITOR? For this test,
two electrodes will be placed on your chest and you will be given a monitor
to wear. The monitor detects the heart rhythm and automatically starts. Be sure to keep track of your symptoms and the
time of the recording in the diary provided. You will wear this monitor for
approximately one month unless otherwise instructed.
WHEN
WILL I RECEIVE RESULTS?
Your doctor will let you know the results approximately two weeks after
you’ve finished wearing the monitor. You will receive a letter in the mail
explaining your results or he may ask you to return to the office for a
follow-up visit.
